Countdown to Gold Coast
Page 2
Hopefully you have visualized
yourself running in the race whilst you have been training and
also during the odd idle moments in your day. Previously I have
asked that you lock these thoughts in, allowing them to be
called upon on July 4.
Just chill
This week is best spent, for want
of a better word, chilling. Try not to think too much about the
race itself. Focus more on the situation you would like to be in
next Sunday night following the accomplishment of your goal.
These thoughts will allow you to receive a brief taste/hit of
the high which awaits you.
Thinking about what can or can't
go wrong will only raise your anxiety levels and leave you
wasted with worry.
Remember those who are truly
challenged
Last year when I was reaching the
turn around point at Runaway Bay I noticed a runner on the other
side of the road who was on the return journey. He was running
with a catheter entering his body. At this point my Sub 3hr pack was starting to
dwindle in numbers, runners were getting tired. I pointed out
this guy to my group and asked them to realise how fortunate
they were. I asked them to gain some inspiration/energy by the
courage that this guy displayed.
Reach deep within
If you become tired in the final
km's of your event this Sunday, tap into your final reserves.
Reach deep within and you will find the momentum.
I hope you have enjoyed the
Countdown to Gold Coast articles half as much as I have in
putting the few words together. I believe that distance running
offers far more than fitness. It allows you to discover
yourself.
All the best for Sunday, it will
be a great day.
Cheers
Pat
