I live in
Clayfield, have lived in Brisbane since 1974 (birth)
and joined the Pat Carroll running group in October 2004.
My favourite restaurant is an
authentic Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant in West End - Quan
Thanh. It’s cheap and the décor isn’t too flash, but the food
is fabulous.
My earliest childhood memory is my
older sister putting me in the washing trolley and letting it
go from the top of the sloping driveway. She actually used to
put me into some fairly tricky situations until I overtook her
‘heightwise’ when I was about 10 or 11 – then the tables
turned!
I recently accepted that I am an adult,
stopped buying as many shoes and put my money into a home for
me to live in.
My favourite movie as a child was
the Wizard of Oz and as an adult is the Godfather Trilogy.
Brisbane City is a great place to
live because I have so many friends and family close by.
My regular holiday destination is
wherever I decide to go. I don’t really take regular holidays,
I just go away when I can get a break from work. I went to
Bali recently, their friendly and generous nature when they
have so little and their work ethic is something to be
admired. Their fake hand bags and the quality of their water
are not.
If money was no option I would buy
everyone a nice pair of shoes. Life’s always much brighter
with a good lookin’ pair of shoes on your trotters.
It frustrates me when unfit people
at work use phrases like “you’re killing yourself” when they
see me come in from running training in the mornings. I know I
probably don’t look my best, but that’s a little harsh!!!
I have been involved in running on
and off since I was about 20 and my most memorable running
experience is completing my first half marathon at the
Gold Coast in 2003, partly because I came in under 2 hours but
mostly because I finished.
I enjoy distance running because it
clears my mind and makes me feel good.
My favourite run is along the river
in Brisbane.
Motivation for running and work
is something I have huge amounts of. My mother wishes I
had the same motivation for finding a boyfriend and producing
offspring – with a grin on my face I say “good luck with that
Ma”.
Injuries are something that have
plagued me since joining the PCRG. I’m not a natural runner,
but enjoy it. So keeping myself injury-free is taking some
work and is definitely keeping my chiropractor/podiatrist/physio
cashed up!
Not getting married in 2001 was a
turning point in my life because it was a very tough
decision but to go ahead with it would have been a HUGE
mistake. I could have suffered through 14 years of grief like
Pat, and who wants that???
The Pat Carroll running group
appears to be a group of people who like running nude (Tori
told me this topic has to be included somewhere in every
profile). Whilst I can not and will not participate in such
activities, watching others do so is always good for a laugh.
And I am quite skilled at standing around and laughing at
others.
I prefer running in the morning
because it’s a great way to start the day.
Running is something I hope to
maintain as part of my life for many years to come. I do
sometimes find it difficult to do but strangely this
makes me want to run more so it becomes easier.
The best advice my dad ever gave
me was to pick my battles.
My father inspires me. He didn’t
finish high school and through self-education now runs a
successful business, is a great father and has never given me
a bad word of advice. I will always want more shoes. Other
than a bad spiral perm & a chequered bubble skirt when I was
14 I don’t regret anything I’ve done so far in life.
