07 Sydney Marathon

You were spot on – I did have a really disappointing run at the
GC so the past 3 months have been a real focus for me to prove
that I have what it takes to run closer to that 4 hour mark. It
has been the support from yourself and your sessions as well as
my running buddies, in particular, Tammy, Garry, Sarah and Karen
that have really helped me gain my confidence back and realize
that by changing a few things and doing a little more research
in some areas that I really did have what it took to improve my
time.
I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect run everything just
went so right. Apart from being absolutely freezing at the
start (I have never felt so cold) once I warmed up my body just
kicked in and the whole run just felt right. I was comfortable
the whole way and felt really strong. For some reason the ipod
seemed to play all the right songs. At 30k I remember thinking
– “this is going way too quick – it is going to be all over
before I know it” and then before I knew it I could hear Tess
screaming at me at the 41k mark but most importantly then to
hear your voice at the finish congratulating me, promoting PCRG
and “go the Queenslanders”.
To cross that line at 4:02:13 was pure victory for me but to
feel so good for the whole race was even better.
And what a sensational run it was, you really couldn’t ask for a
more beautiful course, over the bridge and the finish was the
most unbelievable experience around the rocks and into the Opera
House. I actually can’t wait to head back and run it again next
year.
Thanks again Pat it just goes to show that with courage,
determination and just purely “digging deep” anything is
possible. “We as humans are like tea bags, we don’t always know
our own strength until we are put into hot water”.
Looks like the next goal is a sub 4!!!!!
